Caffeine-free coffee alternatives, compared — honestly.
Here is the awkward part of shopping for a caffeine-free coffee alternative: most of them are not caffeine-free. Four of the five below are literally coffee, and the mushroom doses are usually tucked inside one blend total. Shroombiosis is the opposite: caffeine-free, seven dual-extracted mushrooms at printed doses, every dose on a Supplement Facts panel, and a full pre / pro / postbiotic stack in the cup.
- 0 mg caffeine
- 7 mushrooms · 4,300 mg

One cup, not a cabinet
One caffeine-free scoop instead of a shelf.
A single Shroombiosis scoop carries seven dosed mushrooms, three superfoods, and a complete pre / pro / postbiotic stack — acacia prebiotic fiber, the DE111® probiotic, and the BPL1® HT postbiotic. To assemble that from the mushroom coffees you'd buy a mushroom product, a separate probiotic, and — with Everyday Dose — a paid add-on creamer for the biotic. We put it in one cup, and we print every amount.

‡We went and looked. These three were photographed on a Target shelf on 9 August 2026 — price tag and Supplement Facts panel in the same frame. RYZE, $17.99 for 20 servings = $0.90. Everyday Dose Coffee+, $19.99 for 14 = $1.43. MUD\WTR Coffee Mocha, $19.99 for 12 = $1.67. We had estimated RYZE higher from their website, and we corrected it the day we found out — a comparison that flatters us isn't worth reading. So yes: they cost less. But “less” is not one number. RYZE’s 30-serving bag carries three prices on their own site as we write this: a $45 list price, a $27 checkout price under a 40%-off banner (the same $0.90 a serving as that shelf tag), and $36 when the subscription refill bills (their site, checked August 11, 2026). Prices in this category move week to week with promotions. That is why the table quotes the lowest price we could verify for each brand: if a row is going to go against us, we would rather lose it against their floor than win it against their sticker. †Ours is $1.67 a serving ($49.99 for 30), the founding price for the first 500 tubs. It goes up after that, and we would rather tell you now than surprise you later. That puts us level with MUD\WTR and no longer the most expensive thing on the shelf. What the money buys is 4,300 mg of mushroom extract across seven species, every one printed at its own milligram, plus a full pre / pro / postbiotic stack and zero caffeine. Per dollar that works out to roughly 2,580 mg of mushroom; the only other brand in this table that prints a dose for each mushroom lands near 1,345. Milligrams are not the whole story, extract strength varies and no two brands' numbers are truly comparable, which is exactly why we print ours where you can check them. *Competitor figures marked with an asterisk are the brands' own online prices, which move constantly with subscriptions and promotions — verify at their carts. Four Sigmatic reflects their Original. What the price pays for →

Where we're built differently
What actually sets us apart
Caffeine-free, and it's the flagship — not a side option
Every one of these brands' main products carries caffeine: RYZE (48 mg), Everyday Dose (90 mg), Four Sigmatic (~50 mg), MUD\WTR Original (~35 mg from black tea) and MUD\WTR's newer Coffee blend (45 mg). Four of the five are now literally coffee. To be fair to MUD\WTR: their Turmeric and Rest blends are genuinely 0 mg — so we're not the only caffeine-free cup on the shelf, and we won't pretend otherwise. The difference is that caffeine-free is our flagship, not a variant you have to go looking for. Shroombiosis is 0 mg at 4,300 mg of mushroom extract — so you stay in control of your own caffeine. Morning, afternoon, or evening, or stirred straight into the coffee you already love.
Every dose on the label
Read off their own packages on a Target shelf, 9 August 2026. RYZE prints one number — "2000 mg of our SUPER6™ blend" — across six mushrooms, so there's no way to know how much lion's mane you're getting. Everyday Dose prints a single "Proprietary Blend — 9000 mg" that counts the coffee and the collagen inside that number, with only two mushrooms in it. Four Sigmatic's Focus bag carries a Nutrition Facts panel and lists "organic lion's mane extract, organic chaga extract" with no amount at all. MUD\WTR is the honourable exception — they do print per-mushroom amounts, and credit where it's due. Shroombiosis lists all seven at their own milligram on a Supplement Facts panel.
Seven mushrooms, 4,300 mg, each one printed
Two mushrooms (Everyday Dose), four (MUD\WTR), five (Four Sigmatic), or six (RYZE). Ours are seven, dual-extracted, totalling 4,300 mg per serving — against RYZE's stated 2,000 mg and MUD\WTR Coffee's 2,250 mg, both from their own labels. That's roughly twice the mushroom extract, with each species at a printed amount rather than pooled into one figure. Milligrams tell you what you're paying for, not what it does — the potency assay is a separate promise, and we'll publish it when we hold it.
Why "dual-extracted" matters: a mushroom's key compounds differ in polarity — the beta-glucans are polar and dissolve in hot water, while the triterpenes are non-polar and don't. A single water-only extract, or a raw powder, captures one and largely leaves the other behind. Dual extraction runs two complementary passes, so both families of compounds end up in the cup — and the milligrams on our label reflect the whole compound profile, not half of it.
A complete pre / pro / postbiotic stack — in the cup
Acacia prebiotic fiber + the DE111® probiotic (Bacillus subtilis DE111) + the BPL1® HT postbiotic (Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis CECT 8145), to help support a healthy gut microbiome.* Of the field, MUD\WTR and RYZE include none; Four Sigmatic has a probiotic only; Everyday Dose's is sold as a separate paid creamer. Ours is a full stack, already in the cup.
Creaminess without the filler
A White Chocolate Mocha cup from coconut-milk powder and cacao — no collagen, no maltodextrin or modified starch, and no added sugar (lightly sweetened with monk fruit and stevia).
What about the lab-tested brands?
Not every alternative is a caffeinated coffee — a few brands genuinely share our transparency values. The most rigorous is Nootropics Depot's Mushroom Magic: caffeine-free, third-party lab-tested with published Certificates of Analysis, made in an ISO / cGMP facility, with disclosed doses (Lion's Mane 500 mg + Cordyceps militaris 500 mg fruiting body) at about $1.33 a serving. It's the buy-raw, lab-grade single-extract option, and we respect it. Shroombiosis is built for a different job: the same commitment to transparency, plus seven mushrooms, superfoods, a full pre / pro / postbiotic stack, and a genuinely drinkable daily cup. We'd rather be measured against the best than the cheapest.
The honest bit
What the price actually pays for
$1.67per serving · $49.99 for 30
At the founding price we're level with MUD\WTR per serving and under the caffeinated coffees' list prices — no longer the expensive one on the shelf. Still not the cheapest, and we won't pretend to be: RYZE's promo floor lands lower, largely through subscription-gated, near-permanent discounts. What we'd rather be measured on is what arrives in the cup: it's all in one scoop. Every mushroom is dual-extracted at a disclosed dose, alongside superfoods and a full pre / pro / postbiotic stack — no proprietary blends, no separate add-ons to buy, and every milligram printed on the label. We'd also rather put every dollar into the formula than into free gifts and gimmicks to sweeten the deal. $49.99 is the founding price for the first 500 tubs, and it goes up after those are gone.

Testing — where we actually stand
Every batch is tested before it ships — but testing by the people who make a product isn't independent, and we won't call it that. When we hold an independent, batch-specific Certificate of Analysis, it posts on the product page and we'll name the lab. Until then, judge our testing claims as sceptically as anyone's — the same standard we apply to everyone else on this page.
Formulated by a physiologist and a pharmacist
Built by Onur Oncer, a U.S. Army combat veteran, University of Arizona physiologist (Phi Beta Kappa), and published researcher, with Dr. Danielle Oncer (PharmD), who owns research review and dosing accuracy. Neither of them would sign off on a proprietary blend.

Questions
Comparison FAQ
Is there a caffeine-free alternative to MUD\WTR or RYZE?
Yes — Shroombiosis, at 0 mg. RYZE runs 48–90 mg depending on roast, MUD\WTR Original ~35 mg and its Coffee blend 45 mg. MUD\WTR also sells two genuinely caffeine-free blends, Turmeric and Rest, so we're not the only option — the difference is that caffeine-free is our flagship, with seven mushrooms at 4,300 mg and every dose printed on the label. Mix it into water, tea, a smoothie, or the coffee you already drink.
Does mushroom coffee have caffeine?
Most do. RYZE runs 48–90 mg, Everyday Dose 90 mg on the medium roast, Four Sigmatic ~50 mg, and MUD\WTR ~35 mg on Original or 45 mg on its Coffee blend — though MUD\WTR's Turmeric and Rest are 0 mg. Figures read off the packages in a Target store, August 2026. Shroombiosis is caffeine-free at 0 mg by design — it isn't coffee-based.
How is Shroombiosis different from MUD\WTR or RYZE?
Three things, read off their own labels in a Target store in August 2026. It's caffeine-free, where their flagship products run 35–90 mg. It carries seven mushrooms at 4,300 mg total — against RYZE's stated 2,000 mg across six and MUD\WTR Coffee's 2,250 mg across four — with each species printed at its own milligram, where RYZE gives one blend total and Everyday Dose gives a single 9,000 mg proprietary blend that counts its coffee and collagen inside the number. And it carries a full pre / pro / postbiotic stack, where RYZE has a prebiotic fiber blend and Four Sigmatic a probiotic, but none carry all three. MUD\WTR does print per-mushroom doses — credit where it's due.
Which mushroom coffee has the most mushrooms?
Of this group, Shroombiosis has the most at seven, followed by RYZE (6), Four Sigmatic Original (5), MUD\WTR (4), and Everyday Dose (2). Count matters less than amount and disclosure: Shroombiosis totals 4,300 mg with all seven printed individually, and MUD\WTR also prints its per-mushroom doses. RYZE, Everyday Dose and Four Sigmatic do not.
How does the price compare to the mushroom coffees?
At $1.67 a serving we're level with MUD\WTR and under the caffeinated coffees' list prices, though promo pricing can run lower. The difference is what the money buys: seven dual-extracted mushrooms at disclosed doses totalling 4,300 mg, plus a full pre / pro / postbiotic stack, all on a Supplement Facts panel that hides nothing. Every dollar goes into the cup, not into free gifts or gimmicks.
Will it taste bad? Mushrooms sound earthy.
It's a White Chocolate Mocha flavor built from coconut-milk powder and cacao, lightly sweetened with monk fruit and stevia — no added sugar and no gritty earthiness. And it's backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee, so trying it is low-risk.
Do I really need all seven mushrooms?
Each mushroom is included at its own disclosed dose for its own role, and the single scoop replaces buying several extracts separately. You're not paying for a mystery "complex" — every amount is on the label so you can judge for yourself.
Are you certified organic like RYZE and MUD\WTR?
Our ingredients are sourced to organic standards, and formal third-party certification is in progress. We won't call ourselves "certified" until it's complete — RYZE and MUD\WTR currently hold their certifications and we won't imply otherwise.
